We are hanging out in the hospital with Beckett. Last night we found 2 sleep chairs, so we could spread our legs out. The private room is such a blessing so we can actually get some rest. We went to bed a little after midnight and Beckett woke up around 2:00 to eat. They hooked him up to the A/B monitor (apnea/bradycardia) and continuous pulse oximetry as well as the telemetry monitor...pretty much every moitor you can be hooked up to to monitor breathing, heartrate, oxygen saturation and respirations. They checked his vitals at 4:30 and he woke up to eat again at 5:30...at 6:30, the med student came in to assess him and at 7:30 the resident came in to see him. My dad brought coffee at 8:30, so I decided to just get up for the day!
ok...so as I was writing this, the attending doctor came in with what we think is the answer to what happened! She brought an article explaining a condition called HHE (Hypotonic-Hyporesponsive Episode), which is a reaction to the pertussis vaccine that he recieved about 4 hours prior to all of this happening! THANK GOD that we have an answer to all of this!!! This happens very rarely. The definition is a sudden onset of hypotonia, hyporesponsiveness and pallor that occurs within 48 hours of vaccination.
This explains why he didn't need any interventions (help breathing or oxygen) to get better. He is a textbook case of this and we think that the low heart rate is just normal for him and has nothing to do with this episode at all! Praise God we know what is going on with our little angel! Thank you all for your prayers-especially praying that God would allow up to find out the reason this happened. He answered our prayers.
The doctor still wants to do the EEG tomorrow (to rule out any type of seizure activity), so we will stay in the hospital tonight, but should sleep better knowing we don't have to watch his heart rate anymore! As of now, they have taken him off of the A/B monitor and are just waiting to get the ok from cardiology to remove him from the telemetry monitor.
Will update more later if there are any changes!
Zach and I are so thankful for you all!
